Just some of my airplanes

I enjoyed building and flying model airplanes from way back in the early 1940's  --- 2016 now and I'm 86 and kinda lost interest in the airplanes so sold some and have some hanging in the garage still.

RC Airplanes I'm building

A couple more planes that I'm working on right now.

Setting up wing for Zippty Do Da

Here I creasing the foam so I can shape it into an airfoil, the foam is about 5mm thick, (1/4") or so.

This is my first try at a Ducted fan airplane ant this is the front end of the Zippty Do Da, wasn't enough to fly so set it aside for now.

I rubbed on some blue paint with a cloth, looks kind of poopy I guess.

My smallest airplane so far and I had some tiny motors, I didn't think 2 would fly it so I put on 4.  Well even 4 little motors didn't do the job so sidelined this one.

Midge Quad from front on.

This is a boat that I bought at a thrift shop and I have mounted a Ducted Fan on it .
The fan wasn't enough to power the boat, need a bigger one, sidelined.

I built the biggest boat this past year and it's a 1/4 scale Cracker Box Racer and 48" long, the other one I bought at a thrift shop and I have mounted a Ducted Fan on it and it's 40" long, I haven't run either of them yet.
Tried the Cracker Box in the swimming pool but couldn't get it to go straight so I gave up on it.

This is the transom of my 48" Cracker Box Racer, I built a home made rudder and don't know if it will work or not.

Beginnings of my 48" Cracker Box Racer.

New Planes I'm building

These are three airplanes that I'm building right now, two are built using Blue Foam that I got at Lowes a few years ago so I thought I would see if I could build something out of it.  Here are some pictures of it part way done and the blue one hanging up is one that I have had for several years and is regular construction.  Finished this but never tried to fly it as of 2016.

Trying to figure out how to mount a canopy.

Regular construction Something Extra, it has been crashed and rebuilt a few times.

Doing some repair work on the blue SE wing.

Starting on wing construction.

Putting in some dowels to hold the front of the wing in place.

I was just getting started with the wing here.

Dicks RC Airplanes

Dicks RC Airplanes

My PT-19

This airplane has a 10' wingspan and was built from plans drawn by Wendell Hostetler.  Hostetler has many really nice sets of plans of different scale models, (big ones).  On his web site he says he usually builds a new plane every year and then publishes the plans.  I bought the plans for this one many years ago at an RC Swap meet for $5 and they laid around for years until I finally got around to building it and it was a tough one to build.  I have a big electric motor for it that is supposed to be the equivalent of about an 80cc Gas engine?  We'll see if I ever get around to flying it.

Here she is leaning against a tree out front partly constructed.
Also decided to build a boat and power it with an electric motor, so I finished it and put it in the swimming pool to check things out and I couldn't get it to turn left so I have made some modifications and since doing it I haven't tried it again.  Harley, our little Yorkie seems to be a little intimidated here, probably because he's not too crazy about getting in the water.  This boat is 4' long and 17" wide and the motor I have in it I planned on using 10 A123 Cells for 36 volts so I think it should move out if I can correct the turning problem.  I have no experience with boats so it's all experimentation on my part.

RC Airplanes of mine

Well, I'm through with my motorcycle trip out west and back to building RC model airplanes

Some of models I have built and some I have flown and many I have not flown.  I have switched to all Electric power for these planes.  Biggest on is the Blue and Yellow PT-19 at about 10' wingspan and the one next to is that's Red and White is a 32% size model of an Extra 300L and it's about 102" span or 8 1/2', Smallest one in the center and sorta yellow is an 18" wingspan with 4 little motors on it and I have named it the Midge Quad.
Sold some of these planes after losing interest in the hobby for now, 2016
